A MyDrivers report indicates that some AIBs are having a tough time selling AMD RX 6000 series, between the mining crash and the impending arrival of next-gen parts. The RX 6700 XT is now selling for US$395 on Newegg, US$85 below its MSRP. This comes after price cuts pushed the RX 6900 XT 30 percent below MSRP.

A report from MyDrivers indicates that GPU prices could continue to dip significantly. According to the report, OEMs including Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI, and others are having trouble selling off RX 6000 series stock. Newegg prices lend credence to the report, with certain RX 6700 XT models selling for under US$400. After the cryptocurrency mining crash earlier in the year, sky-high GPU prices plunged dramatically, from being double the MSRP to well below.

Apart from consumer graphics card supply return to normal, both NVIDIA and AMD are expected to release their RTX 4000 and RX 7000 series cards this year, promising significant performance gains. Between these two factors, it appears that consumers aren’t particularly keen at the moment to buy a new graphics card, forcing price cuts. Most dramatically, the flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT – which goes head to head with the GeForce RTX 3090 – saw a 30 percent cut to pricing, with cards retailing at US$699.

The dip in GPU pricing makes cards like the GeForce RTX 2060 12 GB, GeForce GTX 1630, and AMD RX 6400 – look like even worse value proposals than when they launched. In the months to come, it’ll be interesting to see whether next-gen cards will sell at MSRP or if price inflation will return.
